![]() ![]() ![]() That's not an understatement either, make no mistake, Obsessed by Cruelty truly does have the potential to be recognized as a death metal album not just because it happens to have gory cover art of a human face being ripped off its skull, with the album's namesake spelled by pools of blood, the music on the album itself is actually suitable for having such a cover to adorn it. Meanwhile the title track goes a step further by trying to outdo Black Sabbath at their own game with another slow haunting doom metal track that wouldn't quite rival Black Sabbath's namesake song, but the influence is unmistakable as the song opens up, it soon returns to the prototypical death/thrash metal style Sodom established here. doom metal that transitions into thrash metal? An odd mix to be sure that reminds me of early Trouble.
